Folkmanis Tortoise Hand Puppet

Is this Tortoise looking for a hare to race? This silk-screened, suede-cloth puppet is just one step away from nature. Head & front legs articulate or retract into shell completely.

Tortoises (Testudinidae) live across the warm regions of Africa, Asia, southern Europe and the Americas, mostly in dry savannah, scrubland and open woodland. Their high-domed shell is made of fused bony plates covered by horny scutes, and the markings on those scutes tell one species from another. They feed almost entirely on plants: grasses, herbs, leaves and fruit also cover much of their water intake. Shell length ranges from a little over ten centimetres to more than a metre, depending on the species. When threatened they draw in head and front legs and close the opening with their sturdy, scaled forelimbs.

Did you know that tortoises have some of the longest lifespans among vertebrates, with some individuals living over 150 years? This remarkable longevity is often attributed to their slow metabolism and calm lifestyle.
