The future is now with the Folkmanis robot hand puppet. Crafted by imagination, this cool vintage-looking automaton is out of this world with movable mouth, arms and digits. (finger accesses on the underside of the claws)
The robot’s story belongs to twentieth-century technical culture. The word “robot” comes from the 1920 play “R.U.R.” by the Czech writer Karel Čapek and derives from a Slavic word for forced labour. In the decades after the Second World War, Japan built an entire industry around tin robot toys. Wind-up or battery-powered figures with blinking eyes and a clanking walk became a major export to the United States and Europe. Science-fiction films of the 1950s, such as “Forbidden Planet” with its robot Robby, turned the tin figure into a nursery classic for good. To this day, the vintage robot with its round head and boxy body stands for the future as earlier generations once pictured it.
Did you know that robots are often used in education to introduce children to basic programming and engineering concepts in a playful manner? Robot hand puppets can help children develop an interest in technology and science by providing fun, interactive, and creative playtimes.
