Our big cuddly American alligator puppet will swamp you with affection! This realistically rendered puppet, with velour ruching on his body and soft plastic teeth, crouches at the riverbank ready to make a splash in your home!
The American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) inhabits the swamps, rivers and marshes of the south-eastern United States, from the Carolinas to Texas. Males reach a good four metres, and the broad, rounded snout tells the species apart from the narrow-snouted crocodiles. Fish, turtles, waterbirds and nutria make up the diet, while young alligators take insects and crayfish. The female heaps up a nest mound of vegetation, guards it, and carries the newly hatched young down to the water in her mouth. How warm that mound sits decides whether males or females emerge.
Did you know that alligators replace their teeth throughout life? When one breaks off, a replacement already waiting beneath it moves into the same socket, and as many as 3,000 teeth pass through a single jaw. That is why the full set of teeth is still there after decades of biting down on shell and bone.
