Folkmanis Friendly Dragon Hand Puppet

Big fun is packed into the Folkmanis friendly dragon puppet! Retro-like whimsy is featured in the big kind eyes, big movable mouth, big scaly body, and not-so-big wings. Perfect for story time and fantasy play adventures!

The friendly dragon is a young idea. Kenneth Grahame invented him in 1898 in his story The Reluctant Dragon: a beast that would rather write poetry than fight. Saint George duly turns up and settles for a staged bout arranged between them. A straight line runs from there to Falkor in The Neverending Story, to Tabaluga and to the little dragon Coconut. In these stories the dragon no longer stands against the hero but beside him, still working out what he is good for.

Did you know that the word dragon reaches back through Latin to the Greek drákōn? Behind it lies a verb for seeing sharply: it was the piercing gaze, not the fire, that people first attributed to the creature. In this dragon, all that is left of the old terror is the wide-eyed wonder.
