Folkmanis Pterodactyl Hand Puppet

The pterodactyl is a prehistoric flying reptile, well known for its long-crested skull and remarkable wingspan. The Folkmanis Pterodactyl hand puppet is made from textured turquoise fabric with silvery wings. A movable beak and a two-handed design let you work the full span in flight.

Pterosaurs were the first vertebrates to achieve powered flight, and they held the sky for over 150 million years. The wing membrane stretched from the body and hind leg to an enormously elongated fourth finger. Their bones were thin-walled and filled with air, which kept the weight down. Pterodactylus itself lived some 150 million years ago beside the lagoons of what is now southern Germany, taking fish and other small prey. The finds from the Solnhofen limestone rank among the finest fossils anywhere.

Did you know that Pterodactylus was barely bigger than a crow? Its wings spanned about a metre. Only much later relatives such as Quetzalcoatlus reached a good ten metres, making them the largest animals ever to fly.
