An exotic and tiny species of cephalopod, the Mini Blue-Ringed Octopus Folkmanis finger puppet is a striking golden hue with blue ringlet patterning. Worn on a finger, it finds a stage on any table edge or sofa arm.
Blue-ringed octopuses (genus Hapalochlaena) live in shallow reefs and tide pools between Japan and Australia. By day they tuck themselves into empty shells, under stones or inside tins lying on the seabed. At night they hunt small crabs and shrimp, wrapping the catch in their arms. A female carries her clutch beneath her arms for weeks and takes no food at all in that time. A hatchling is fully grown after roughly a year.
Did you know that the blue rings light up only once the octopus feels threatened? At rest the animal looks a plain sandy colour, then up to sixty rings flare within a second. Anyone who reads the warning and keeps a distance has nothing to fear.
