Warmth comes from under her plumage, because the young cannot yet hold their own temperature. Within weeks true feathers replace the down, and a pecking order takes shape in the group.
Did you know that a chick opens its egg with a tool of its own? A hard egg tooth on the tip of the beak splits the shell from the inside, and it drops off by itself a few days after hatching.
